Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Rob) on Sunday urged President Abdul Hamid to take an initiative to hold a national dialogue involving all political parties, professional bodies and civil society members to resolve the current political crisis. The party made the request when a six-member delegation led by its President ASM Abdur Rob paid a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban, President’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told journalists after the meeting. During the meeting, the delegation discussed the country’s current political situation and portrayed a scenario on losses of lives and properties in the ongoing political violence and urged the President to introduce the national dialogue to arrive at a permanent solution to the current political problems. The President informed the delegation that earlier a delegation led by leader of the opposition and another delegation led by Dr Kamal Hossain held meetings with him and he (the President) conveyed the messages of those meetings to all concerned. The President said he took oath to protect and preserve the constitution. “So he (the President) has to take steps within the provisions of the constitution,” Karim said. On November 26, six eminent citizens of the country led by Dr Kamal Hossain met the President and requested him to play an informal role in solving the current political problems regarding the upcoming polls. Earlier, on Nov 19, the 18-party alliance leaders, led by BNP chief Khaleda Zia, met the President at Bangabhaban.
