President Abdul Hamid on Saturday called upon the country’s student
community to grow their reading habit instead of confining their
knowledge to mere class notes. “Reading habit has to be developed
instead of confining your knowledge to class notes and note-based
knowledge of coaching centers. The practice of art, literature,
culture, sports apart from study will help to build your lives,” he
said. The President said this while addressing a reception to the
students who obtained scholarships in Primary Terminal Examination and
GPA-5 in Junior School Certificate Examinations-2013 organised by
Saleha-Imarat Charitable Foundation at Bhabaniganj Government Boys’
High School.Eight local eminent persons and two institutions were
given medals by the President at the function. “You keep in mind
that success never comes spontaneously. It’s achieved through
steadfastness by using labour and merit. I hope your today’s success
will inspire you to achieve more success in the future and I believe
you’ll be able to attain it,” he said. There must be united efforts
behind any achievement, the President said adding, “Each person is
born with some sort of merit. The duty of guardians and teachers is to
utilise the merit. I hope, the teachers of all educational
institutions will put in their highest efforts to flourish the talents
of their students by utilising their merits, thoughts and competence.”
“You need to keep in mind that you’ll have to face more competitions
in the future. Universities, medical colleges or engineering
universities wherever you want to get enrolled there is a huge
competition,” he said. The President said, “We’re yet to achieve the
goal of economic emancipation of the common people completely though
our country became independent under the leadership of Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971 through the
sacrifices of thousands of martyrs.” He went on, “You’ll have to
work to achieve the goal. Bangabandhu had always wanted to see a
beautiful and prosperous Bangladesh. I expect you will play an active
role in materialising the dream.” State Minister for Foreign Affairs
Shahriar Alam, MPs Omar Faruk Chowdhury, Abdul Wadud Dara and
Ainuddin, former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman
Liton, among others, addressed the programme held with Saleha-Imarat
Charitable Foundation Enamul Haque, MP in the chair. During the
Baghmara visit, the President also visited Bangabandhu Complex there
and placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu. – UNB
