A guard of Jessore central jail was arrested in the district town on
Friday on charge of swindling a man of Tk2.5 lakh promising him a job.
The arrested person Saiful Islam, son of late Azibar Molla, hails from
Bhimorolla village in Chuadanga Sadar upazila.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Sheikh Emdad Hossain
said Saiful, a resident of Gup Jail Road area of the town, had taken
Tk2.5 lakh from his neighbour Shariful Islam Mandal, a retired jailer,
on December 11, 2011, promising to give his son a job.
Although a long time has elapsed, Saiful not keep his words, rather
bought time giving repeated dates for fulfilling the promise.
Recently, the Jessore jail authorities transferred six guards,
including Saiful, to Sylhet as punishment for various irregularities
in the jail, added the OC.
After learning about the transfer, Shariful‘s family members caught
Saiful and handed over him to Kotwali thana police after filing a
