Problems noted at some centres where EVMs were used: CEC

Dhaka, Jan 30 – Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda yesterday said there were problems in some of the places where electronic voting machines (EVM) were used in the 11th parliamentary election on December 30 last year.
He said, form the pools-time mistakes the concerned officials should learn and to be ready for the forthcoming upazila elections.
The CEC asked the election officials to identify the mistakes of using the EVM in the general elections and correct those ahead of the upazila elections.
Huda came up with the remarks while addressing a training programme at the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in the capital’s Agargaon yesterday, organised for the trainers of election officials and on voting through EVMs.
The CSC said, people will get confused if any mistake occurs through the EVMs as it is a new system to the mass people for voting.
We have used the EVMs in the six parliamentary seats where we found some problem in some places. If
the officials had more caution that mistake should not have been wrong, said the CSC.
However, the CEC advised the election officials to participate in the training attentively.
The Election Commission is set to hold the first phase of upazila election on either March 8 or 9. The
commission will sit in a meeting on February 3 to finalise the election date.
