Proshika chairman, 3 others issued warrants of arrest

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Tuesday issued warrant of arrest against three people of Proshika including its chairman Quazi Faruque in a case filed for embezzlement of money and threat of murder.
The other two accused persons are the non-government organisation’s Director and CFO Altaf Hossain Talukder and Deputy Director of Workers’ Welfare Fund Alamgir Hossain. Magistrate M Hasibul Haque of the CMM Court passed the order.
On September 11 last year, former computer operator of Proshika, filed the case against the accused on the charges, while the court took cognisance of the case and directed the Officer-in-Charge of Rupnagar Police Station in the capital to submit a probe report after necessary investigation.The complainant of the case has alleged that on October 20 in 2008, he was injured seriously in a road accident. He had to leave his job of Proshika as became quite unable to carry on his official duty.
As he served the NGO for a long time he owed a total of Tk 1,35,316 to Proshika, but the organisation paid him on Tk 50,000.
On January 13 of last year Kamrul Islam requested Proshika to pay his dues through a legal notice. But, later when he contacted Proshika authorites direcly they denied to pay his dues and moreover, they threatened him of death if he take any move to get the remaining money from the NGO.
Kamrul joined the Rajapur upazila office of the organisation on May 4 in 2000 as a computer operator and later he was transferred to Dhaka’s Rampura development centre. He met with the accident while working there. – Court Correspondent
