Pry.school bldg in Jhalakathi facing erosion

A government primary school building in Kathalia upazila of the
district is on the verge of disappearing into the Kachua with erosion
by the river intensifying.
The small river, a branch of the Bishkhali river, may engulf the
building of Kachua Board Government Primary School at any moment.
More than 300 students of the school have been attending classes amid
risk for long.
Classrooms of the school go under 1.5 feet water even during small tide.
Erosion by the Kachua has already advanced up to near the main
building of the school.
It is apprehended that the school building may be washed away by the
river water.
To the teachers and students, it is a big hurdle reaching the school
as the road in front of it lies badly damaged.
The school’s headmistress Jannatul Ferodousi Tania said the Local
Government Engineering Department authorities had instructed them to
close down the school six months ago.
Since the school authorities could not manage any building to shift
the school, classes continue in the building considering the future of
the students, she added.
The school authorities have demanded that the government quickly
relocate the school somewhere else. –UNB, Jhalakathi
