Dhaka – The Home Ministry on Thursday asked the relevant agencies for quick investigation into the opposition agitation termed as ‘destructive activities’ conducted during the ongoing blockade enforced by the BNP-led opposition alliance.The Home Ministry has asked the agencies concerned for quick investigation into and legal steps against the persons involved in acts of sabotage, including ‘destruction, blockade and arson attacks’, conducted during today’s blockade, said a handout on Thursday.
It noted that sporadic violence took place across the country, but there was not major setback in the law and order situation till 6pm.
Rail, road, waterways communications as well as the works in industries and offices remained normal despite the blockade, the handout said.
Attempts to carry out bomb blasts and arson attacks by Jamaat-Shibir activists were quickly detected and foiled by the law enforcers, the handout added.
Thursday was the second day of the non-stop countrywide blockade enforced by the 18-party opposition alliance demanding that that the Jan 5 parliamentary polls be postponed.
The 18-party has already enforced countrywide road-rail-waterway blockade for 22 days (501 hours) since November 26 in five spells –71-hour, 131-hour, 144-hour and 72-hour and 83-hour ones — after the announcement of the election schedule that left at least 120 people dead. – UNB
