Quota protest foiled at RU: Classes boycotted at CU

Rajshahi, June 30 – The Quota reform movement could not be held on Rajshahi University (RU) campus as the leaders and activists of the University BCL has foiled their movement, it is alleged. Protesting the attack on the participants of Quota reform movement on Dhaka University Campus on Saturday the students of the university seeking quota reform were prepared to hold a pre-scheduled human chain at central library of the campus at 10.00am.
At one stage of chasing the quota reformist the BCL leaders and activists bet up them with sticks, activists alleged.
eyewitnesses said, at around 09.00am on the day some students tried to gather in front of the university central library. Meanwhile, about 40-50 BCL activists led by its president Golam Kibria and General Secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu chased them with local arms and at least 2 students were injured.
Golam Kibria, president of university BCL unit said, we didn’t chase any quota reformist. We just marched our showdown on the campus.
Joint-secretary of the quota Reform movement RU chapter Morshed Alam said, BCL leaders and activists foiled our human chain program by snatching the banner and they bet up 5-6 students. – RU Correspondent
UNB reported: – Students of Chittagong University boycotted all classes and examinations on Sunday protesting the Saturday’s attack on members of quota reform movement at Sholosohor in the city.
Anwar Hossain, convener of Chattogram unit of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council, the platform of students that led the quota reform movement, said expressing solidarity with the central committee, a group of students took a position in city’s Sholosohor area on Saturday.
At one stage, a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) launched an attack on them, leaving two of the protesters injured, he alleged.
The injured–Tofail Ahmed and Arju Mia, co-convener of the council—were given first aid.
Earlier on Saturday, at least six leaders of the central committee of the council were injured in an attack allegedly by some BCL activists on Dhaka University campus.
Protesting the attack, the students’ council called for an indefinite boycott of classes and examinations in all universities and colleges across the country from Sunday.
