Railway Engr on remand in Zihad ‘killing’ case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed engineer Abdus Salam, a contractor of Bangladesh Railway on a two-day remand in case filed in connection with the death of child Zihad falling in a pipe of a pump, set at Shahjahanpur Railway field of the capital on last December 26.
Magistrate Rezaul Karim of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after hearing the remand plea of police for a seven-day remand to interrogate the accused.On March 8, accused Abdus Salam surrendered to the court with a bail petition while the court sent him to the jail rejecting the plea.
The case statement says that Zihid fell into a pipe near their residence on December 26 evening and unconscious Zihid was recovered from the pipe on the following day about 23 hours after the incident. He was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the physicians declared him dead.
Later, slain Zihid’s father Nasir Fakir filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police Station against Abdus Alam and Railway’s Senior Sub-Assistant Engineer Alam on the charge of negligence of duties. – Court Correspondent
