Rangamati drive to recover arms suspended

Dhaka – The drive launched by the joint forces in Golachhari area of Langadu upazila in Rangamati  to recover arms and ammunition has been suspended until Saturday morning.Announcing the suspension of the drive on Friday evening, Lt Col Abdul Alim Chowdhury, Langadu zone commander of Bangladesh Army, said they will resume the drive on Saturday morning.He, however, did not disclose whether arms and ammunition were recovered in the drive launched by a team comprising Army and police personnel on Thursday night. Earlier, Army personnel in a drive recovered two AK-47 rifles, two Chinese riffles, 152 bullets, four magazines, and eight uniforms, documents and papers of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) from a criminals’ den at Golachhari of the upazila early Thursday.The drive was conducted following information that a gang of UPDF men was gathering in the area for committing criminal activities.However, no one was arrested as the criminals managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the army men.UNB news agency
