A tribunal on Tuesday convicted a man and put him behind bars for life for raping a housewife in Sundarganj upazila in 2005.The convict identified as Khairul Islam, a resident of Bazarpara village of the upazila, was also fined Tk 25000, in default of which he will have to suffer one year more imprisonment.According to the prosecution, Khairul Islam entered the house of one of his neighbours at midnight and violated his (neighbour’s) divorced daughter on May 5, 2005.When the victim yelled out, Khairul fled the scene.Later, a case was filed with Sundarganj police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act in this connection.After examining the records and witnesses, Gaibandha Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Rantashwer Bhattacharya handed down the verdict.UNB, Gaibandha
