Rapists free Chandpur girl after 9-day ordeal

A teenage girl who had allegedly been gang-raped for nine consecutive
days since July 21 was rescued in Matlab Uttar upazila on early
Tuesday.
The 17-year-old girl, hailing from Boro Luxmipur village of Sultanabad
union in the upazila, was rescued by her uncle, Khokan Mia, from near
Torki Launch Ghat where the rapists left her alone, police said.
She was later admitted to Chandpur General Hospital for medical
examination and released on Wednesday morning. A case was filed with
Matlab North Police Station against nine alleged rapists.
The accused are Mohan, 27, son of Haji Sultan Bepari, Jamal, 25, son
of Mannan, member of Thetalia village, Rahmat Ali, 25, son of Arshad
Bepari, Kamrul, 28, of Thetalia village, Regan, 28, and Arab Ali, 27,
Saiful Sarker, 32, son of Kalu Sarker of Thetalia village, Rubel, 26,
son of Habul Bepari of Fatehpur village and Shafique, 27, of Ludhua
village in the same upazila.
According to the case statement, Mohan, Jamal, Rahmat, Shafique
dragged the girl into a CNG-run taxi while she was going to local
Shaheb Bazar on the morning of July 21 and took her to Shafique’s
grandmother’s home.
Afterward, the girl was repeatedly violated by the accused at
different places in the upazila.
On the morning of July 29, Mohan, Rahmat and Rubel alias China Rubel
left the girl at Torki Launch Ghat and fled the scene, threatening her
of dire consequences if she disclosed the names.
