BNP on Sunday alleged that its Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s nomination paper has been cancelled as part of government blueprint to hold a lopsided election.
“We think, it’s an ill-motivated decision. Our leader’s (Khaleda Zia) nomination papers have been rejected as part of government a master plan and a blueprint to keep her away from the election,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a press confence, BNP Nayapaltan central office, he also alleged their party’s some other popular candidates’ nomination papers have also been annulled as the government is trying to hold a unilateral election and stay in power by force.The Election Commission on Sunday trashed Khaleda’s all the three nomination papers filed for contesting the polls from Feni-1, Bogura-6 and Bogura-7 seats for her conviction in two graft cases.
However, the party has alternative candidates in Feni-1 and Bagura-6 seats while it has no candidates in Bagura-6 constituency. Rizvi said the government is not willing to hold a credible election as it is desperate to retain power by any means.
He, however, warned that voters will go to polling stations on December 30 braving all the obstacles to ensure the fall of the current ‘autocratic’ regime.The BNP leader said though the ruling party leaders and candidates are violating the election code of conduct, the Election Commission is not taking any action against them.
“It seems the Election Commission has turned blind while the Chief Election Commissioner and some other commissioners engaged themselves in works to help the government,” he observed. Rizvi said the government has established its control over the EC, police and civil administrations like a ghost to manipulate the election results in its favour.
