Repeat of ’05 Jan’ in city elections will be last game: Kh Mahbub

BNP chairperson’s adviser Advocate Khandaker Mahbubur Hossain yesterday warned that it would be the last game for the government if it repeats January 5 type election in the forthcoming city polls in Dhaka and Chittagong.
“If the government goes for similar game like January 5 polls during the city polls, it will be the last game for them. Enough is enough. We hope you (government) will not repeat the game,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting in the city. The meeting organised by Bangladesh Peshajibi Parisahd was held at Jatiya Press Club.
Khandaker Mahbub, who is also president of Supreme Court Bar Association, said the city polls must be held in a free and fair manner.
“The consequence will be natural if there is any obstruction in carrying out election campaign and holding rallies and bringing out processions,” he said.
Justifying the taking part of BNP-backed candidates in the city polls, he said if they do not take part in it, the government would have claimed to foreigners that the BNP does not believe in constitutional politics like election and they are militants.
“Indeed, the BNP does not fear taking part in the polls. It will prove in the city polls,” he added.
