Claiming that the Gazipur City Corporation polls were free and fair, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Saturday urged the candidates to accept the results showing respect to the people’s mandate.“I urge all the candidates to accept the polls results to protect the country’s democratic tradition,” he said while addressing a press briefing at the Election Commission Secretariat at Agargaon in the city.
The CEC said no untoward incident was reported during the polls as all concerned, including the members of law enforcement agencies and election officials, performed their duties properly.
The EC took prompt action whenever any complaint was lodged, he said, urging all to remain alert to maintain the law and order once the polls results are published.
