‘Retailers should educate farmers on safer use of pesticides’

Speakers at a meeting here have called upon the pesticide retailers for awakening and educating farmers and providing them necessary knowledge to ensure safer and optimum use of chemical pesticides in crop fields.

Citing the severe threats being posed to the public health following indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides, they asked the pesticide traders for disseminating knowledge to the farmers for reduced use of pesticides in combating pests’ attacks and crop diseases.

They were addressing the meeting organised by Auto Crop Care Limited on ‘Safer Use of Pesticides’ for the pesticide retailers, traders and distributors at Pirgachha upazila parishad auditorium here on Saturday afternoon.

With noted businessman of Pirgachha Bazar Alhaj Syed Ali in the chair, Senior Divisional Manager of Auto Crop Care Limited Babul Akhter attained the meeting as the chief guest.

Pirgachha Upazila Sub-assistant Plant Protection Officer of the Department of Agriculture Extension Abdul Latif Miah, officials of Auto Crop care Limited Tapan Kumar and Bimal Chandra Ghosh addressed the meeting as the special guests.

Market Development Officer of Auto Crop Care Limited agriculturist Humayun Kabir moderated the meeting participated by 115 chemical pesticides retailers, distributors and dealers of Pirgachha upazila.

The speakers asked the pesticides traders to become very sincere and stressed for controlling the pesticide markets along with creating awareness among all of the target groups including farmers to ensure safer and optimum use of pesticides. -BSS, Rangpur
