Rizvi on fourth consecutive remand of police

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Monday placed BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on fourth remand for three days in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
Magistrate Mohammad Maruf Hossain of the CMM Court passed the order after hearing the bail petition filed on behalf of Rizvi. His council Mohammad Sanaullah Mia moved the bail petition.Mohammad Bashir Ahmed, Sub-Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) police and also the Investigation Officer of the case produced Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to the court with a ten-day plea on expiry of his five-day remand in an arson case filed with Jatrabari Police Station.
On January 23, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a Narayanganj-bound bus of ‘Glory Paribahan’ when it was crossing Khaterpool area, leaving burn injuries to 31 passengers. Of them, one Nur-e-Alam, 40, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on February 1.
Later, on January 24, Sub-Inspector KM Nuruzzaman of Jatrabari Police Station filed a case against 50 BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including BNP leader Rizvi, and a number of unnamed people under the Explosive Substances Act.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested BNP leader Rizvi from a house at Baridhara in the city on January 31. Later, on February 1, a court of Dhaka placed Rizvi on a three-day remand in another case filed with Badda Police Station for torching another bus in Badda area on the city.
On February 10, a court placed BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on a five-day fresh remand in the arson case filed with Jatrabari Police Station. – Court Correspondent
