Robot World Cup tropy goes to Germany

ROBOTS REPRESENTING GERMANY have triumphed in this years medium sized Robocup, a sporting competition for, well, medium sized robots.Like the football World Cup, Robocup challenges countries to pit teams against each other. Two robots, in this case teen sized robots, take on two others while people watch. According to the information released, the final was a bit one sided.
“The Nimbro Teensize team from Germany had an easy win in the final of the Humanoid Teen Size League against CIT Brains Teen from Japan,” it said.
“The Japanese team had problems with their robots, while both the German robots were on the field for most of the match – a numerical superiority which they used to full advantage.”
The German team scored three goals in the first half and then sealed the deal with a fourth in the second half.
“The Japanese team had a good start with a dangerous situation in front of the Nimbro goal. Our robot Copedo, which was used as field player, could clear the situation,” said the University of Bonn computer science department.
“Dynaped played goalie. Both robots coordinated well who was going for the ball. Nimbro had a clear advantage and scored three goals in the first half.”
Robocup 2013 took place in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Judging by the available content, robots do a little shuffle in the direction of a ball before kicking one leg at it.
The Japanese Joitech robots triumphed in the full size Robocup, beating Huroevolution AD from Taiwan. It appeared that this match was settled on penalties.
The goal of the competitions is that a robot team be in a position to win the real World Cup by 2050. For now, one of the criteria is that they must be able to get up if they fall over. This is something that a lot of professional football players cannot manage.
