Rohingya boat capsizes in Naf, 4 bodies spotted

Cox’s Bazar, Aug 30 – A boat, carrying around 25 Rohingyas, capsized in the Naf River adjacent to Shahparir Dwip in Teknaf upazila while intruding into Bangladesh territory early Wednesday.Witnesses said some 75 Rohingyas from Myanmar were heading towards Bangladesh through the Nar River riding on three boats in the night.
When the fleet reached near Shahparir Dwip, one of the boats capsized and sank when all 25 passengers went missing around 3:30 am.
Later, locals spotted four bodies floating at several points of the Naf River in the morning and informed police, said officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station M Mainuddin Khan.
A team of police has been sent to the spot to recover the bodies, said the OC.
Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh detained some 325 Rohingyas from several bordering points from 12:00 am to 8:00 am while they were trying to enter Bangladesh illegally, said OC Mainuddin.
The detainees will be sent back to Myanmar later, he added. – UNB
