Rajshahi, May 4 -Allegation has been made against the leaders of Bangladesh Chatraa League (BCL) Rajshahi University (RU) unit over occupying the mango and litchi groves illegally without any tender. It has been informed that, out of 7 mango-litchi gardens of the campus tenders have been invited for 4 of those while for the 3 remaining gardens tenders are yet to be invited.
A 4 th year student of philosophy department has been recently beaten up by some BCL leaders and activists as he tried to pluck litchis.
On the same day a bird known as “Basanta Baouri” was stuck in the net that covered the litchi tree and later fire-fighter rescued the bird.
Due to the net cover on all of the trees birds like Mavis, Sparrow are found getting trapped hanging with the nets.
On condition of anonymity a student said, BCL leaders and activists have been restricting students from plucking mangos and litchis on the campus. As these have not been sold out no one can restrict them from consuming the fruits of the campus, he said.
One Sultan was found in watching the garden and informed that he is performing his duty under the direction of BCL leaders Sarwar since the 4-5 days.
An official of the university agriculture project office informed that, four gardens have been tendered out to the two contractors Fahim and Ruhul Amin and the process of the tendering rest of the gardens is on.
Replying to a question whether any tender has been called from the BCL he expressed his ignorance about the matter and informed that bids will be awarded to those who have applied for the tenders.
The Organizing secretary of the unit Sabrun Jamil Susmoy said, Sarwar and Rasel has taken the bids of the two gardens on the campus.
Vice-president of the unit Sarwar Hossen said, his brother has taken the bids and he is taking care of the garden.
Besides, Joint-secretary of the unit said Ibne Karim also found involved with the matter.
General Secretary of unit Faisal Ahmed Runu said, Sarwar and Sushmoy are taking care of the gardens as their brothers have taken the bids but there is no involvement of BCL.
