SSC question leakage admitted: No exam cancellation

Dhaka, May 4 – Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid Thursday said no examinations will be cancelled to retake as the leaked questions of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations had reached a limited number of examinees. He said the probe body to unearth the evidence of question leak has found evidence of question paper leak of 12 out of 17 subjects in ‘Kha’ set multiple choice questions (MCQ) 20 minutes before the exam. About 0.5 percent examinees that is around five thousands out of 20 lakh examinees had got the question papers, he added.
The minister made the disclosure putting forward the report of the probe committee at a press conference at the Secretariat in the capital.
Nahid also said his ministry has accepted the probe report and its recommendations headed by secretary of Technical and Madrasa Education Division of the ministry.
However, the body did not find any evidence of the leak in technical and Madrasa education boards.
Nahid said the questions were not leaked openly rather the incident had occurred through closed group of social media and reached to limited number of examinees.
He said most of the questions which have been shared on the online or social media were fake or tempered.
“Considering all these matters, the body recommended that it would not be sensible to retake exams as a handful of examinees got the questions,” he added.
The education minister said his ministry has been made offender bringing wholesale allegations of question paper leak without proper analysis. It was an injustice against us, he added.
This year the there were huge reports of widespread scale of question paper leak in the SSC examinations held in February. It earned fierce criticism from different quarters.
Though the government took various initiatives to plug the leak the question papers but nothing worked out properly as everyday there were news of leak of the social media.
Among the steps were announcement of Tk 5 lakh bounty to nab the mastermind of the question paper leak, turn up to the examination hall before 30 minutes of examinations.
When reports of widespread question paper leak came out, the ministry formed a probe body to investigate the matter. Finally the body submitted its report to the education minister.
Nahid said, “It was a big challenge to curb question paper leak while holding the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations. There is no news of question paper leak in the exams and it has been possible due to cooperation of all.” – Staff Reporter
