Rajshahi – The students of Rajshahi University (RU) have been suffering from waterlogging caused by light rainfall of the last few days. The problem of water logging is being faced for many years due to the poor drainage system, informed sources have said.Light rainfall causes water-logging on campus while heavy rainfall makes the area quite difficult to move in or out.
Academic activities including classes and exams are disrupted due to this problem.
Most of the time students have to attend their classes wading through knee to waist-deep water.
Students alleged that the university authorities had shown their negligence over the issue for years while the authorities alleged that the situation had emerged mainly due to sudden heavy rainfall.
On Tuesday this correspondent found most of the campus inundated. The roads to the administration building, central library, arts and science faculty buildings and residential halls were submerged while the Transport Chattar, Tuki Taki Chattar, Iblish Chattar, Amtola, Shahidullah Chattar have gone under the water.
A third year Law student Ponkti Deb told to Greenwatchbd that under the circumstances, scheduled classes and examinations at his department have been cancelled.
Students alleged that the university authorities had failed to provide a permanent solution though they faced this problem every year.
Assistant registrar of the university Md. Siddiqur Rahman said that no administrative branch of the University had been tasked with any job regarding the problem.
According to steward branch, there was no way to drain out the water out from the campus since the entire drainage system had been rendered ineffective due a blockage in the system. – RU Correspondent
