Rajhahi-The Rajshahi University (RU) authority has suspended a female student from the university permanently.The suspension decision took from the 467th syndicate meeting of the university headed by vice-chancellor Prof. Muhammed Mizan Uddin at the VC`s lounge Sunday evening.
Suspended is identified as Shapla Sultana Safia, a second-year student of Language Department who is also a hall unit leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Begum Rokeya hall.
Sources said that earlier on December 20, last year alleged BCL leader filed a written allegation to the university vice chancellor against Dr. ATM Rafiqul Islam, a teacher of Islamic History and Culture Department and also a house tutor of Begum Rokeya hall, for allegedly sexually harassing to her.
Besides, BCL activists RU unit staged demonstration including burnt an effigy of the teacher at the campus then.
Later RU administration formed a three-member probe committee to investigation the matter which head was former student advisor Prof. Sadequl Arefin Matin, Prof. Tariqul Hasan and syndicate member Prof. Md. Uzzal Hossain.
RU Pro-VC Prof. Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan told the newsmen that the probe committee did not have any evidence against the teacher. Then they submitted the investigation report to the university syndicate.
After receiving the report syndicate body from the 464th meeting issued a show cause notice within seven days to the female student Shapla being responsible for her false allegation against a teacher of the university in March last.
At last, getting her written answer, on Sunday syndicate body was cancelled her studentship permanently from the university, Pro-VC added. -RU Correspondent
