Rubel to play Cricket World Cup abroad, objection rejected

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Wednesday allowed cricketer Rubel Hossain, now on bail in a rape case filed by new actress Nazneen Akter Happy, to go abroad.
Turning down the complainant’s objection, Magistrate Rashed Talukder passed the order after hearing on two petitions- one for seeking permission to go abroad to play the ensuing World Cup Cricket-2105 and another for exemption from personal appearance during the trial process of the case filed against the accused. After hearing on a fresh plea on January 11, Dhaka’s Metropolitan Session’s Judge-in-Charge KM Imrul Kayes granted detained Rubel an interim bail until the submission of police report on the rape case.
On January 8, the CMM Court of Dhaka sent the national cricketer to jail on his surrender, rejecting his bail plea in the case.
Actress Naznin Akhter Happy filed the case against Rubel on December 13, last year under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
On January 6, the HC summarily dismissed a writ petition filed by Happy seeking the removal of the pacer from the Bangladesh National Cricket team.
According to the first information report (FIR), Rubel had been involved in physical relationship with the actress for eight months. It also said Rubel had promised to marry her and thus developed physical relationship with her.
As Rubel allegedly backtracked, Happy filed the case alleging that Rubel raped her several times at his flat.
Rubel was first picked for the national team in late 2008 following his good performance in the Cricket Academy and he made his international debut in January 2009.
The youngest boy of a seven-member family, the 25-year-old cricketer from Bagerhat played 22 Tests, 53 ODIs and 11 T20Is in his cricket career.
Meanwhile, the Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College did not find any evidence of alleged rape during their examination.
