Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, hanged for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, was buried at his Gahira ancestral home in Raozan upazila on Sunday morning.
He was buried beside his father Fazlul Quader Chaudhury at the family graveyard there around 9:30am after a namaj-e-janaza, said Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafizur Rahman, who supervised the burial.
An ambulance carrying the body of SQ Chowdhury from Dhaka, escorted by several vehicles of law enforcers, reached there around 9:00am.Majharul Islam, deputy jailer of Dhaka Central Jail, handed over the body to SQ Chowdhury’s younger son Hummam Quader Chowdhury around 9:10am.
Some family members attended the namaz-e-janaza held in front of their family mosque in the morning.
The namaz-e-janaza was conducted by Mahibullah Babunagari, a teacher of Fatikchhari Nanupur Madrasah.
Under protection of police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh, he was buried around 9:45am.
After nearly six years of long trial Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed were hanged at Dhaka Central Jail in the early hours of Sunday for crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
This was for the first time two convicts of war crimes were executed together since the beginning of the war crimes trial.
Prisoners Shahjahan and Raju were the hangmen. They were assisted by some other prisoners.
Jail sources said the two war crimes convicts were hanged with separate nooses at the same scaffold at 12:55am.
Escorted by law enforcers, a hearse carrying the body of Salauddin Quader started for his village home in Raozan of Chittagong while another set off with the body of Mojaheed for Faridpur.
A total of four ambulances –- two carrying the dead bodies and the two others with dummies — left the jail gate around 2:52am. – UNB
