Salim Osman discharged from teacher humiliation case

Dhaka, Oct 23 – A Dhaka court acquitted Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Salim Osman of all charges in a case filed over the public humiliation of Narayanganj school teacher Shyamal Kanti Bhakta. Dhaka Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate DrAKM Emdadul Haque acquitted Salim on Tuesday after a hearing on the case.
But the trial of Apu, another accused in the case, will continue as the court turned down Apu’s plea for acquittal.
On May 13 in 2016, Shyamol Kanti, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Narayanganj, was allegedly humiliated and forced to squat holding his ears in the presence of local Jatiya Party MP Salim
Osman.
A video clip of the incident went viral on social media network sparking big protests across the country.
Amid a public uproar over the incident, Salim Osman had said in a statement that misunderstandings had been created among different quarters over the ‘undesired incident’. – Special Correspondent
