Dhaka – The Supreme Court yesterday (Sunday) cleared the way for Habiganj municipality Mayor GK Gaus to resume his official duties.Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain upheld a High Court order that stayed the suspension order of GK Gaus.
The chamber judge of the apex court passed “no order” on a petition filed by the government seeking stay on the HC order.
The mayor’s lawyer Advocate M Masud Rana told the newsmen that the High Court order that stayed the suspension will remain in force following the apex court order. Now, there is no legal bar for Gaus to resume his duties as the Habiganj municipality Mayor, the lawyer added.
Following a writ petition, the High Court on April 4 stayed the LGRD Ministry’s order suspending Gaus from the office after a Habiganj court accepted charge sheet against him in a criminal case. – Special Correspondent
