Dhaka, 08 Jan – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday upheld a High Court order that granted bail to the owners of city’s Apan Jewellers.A five-member appellate division bench led by Acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah passed the order on Monday morning.
Following the order, there is no legal bar to the release of Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed. However, Dildar Ahmed Selim, one of the owners of Apan Jewellers will not be released as he is facing other cases.
Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh moved the bail plea for the petitioners while Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju stood for the state in the court.
Earlier, the Supreme Court stayed the High Court order granting bail to three owners of Apan Jewellers in three money laundering cases.
On December 14, a bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim granted bail to Dildar Ahmed, Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed in three money laundering cases, hearing their petitions. Later, the state filed a petition seeking the stay of the High Court order. – Special Correspondent
