SCC polls campaigns gain momentum

Two main competitors for the Mayoral post of Sylhet City Corporation elections, Mahajote backed candidate Bodor Uddin Ahmed Kamran and 18 party backed candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury started their  campaign after visiting the Majar of Hazrat Shah Jalal (R) Monday noon.Meanwhile, the symbols of various candidates of SCC elections were distributed on Monday by S.M Ajharul Haque, Returning Officer of Sylhet Regional Election office. Accordingly, former SCC Mayor Bodor Uddin Ahmed Kamran was allocated the symbol ‘Pineapple’. He also contested with the same symbol during the last SCC elections. On the other hand, Ariful Haque Chowdhury was allocated `Television’. Though Salah Uddin Rimon during the last SCC election fought with the symbol ‘ Lock’, he expected to get the same symbol this year as well but the symbol of Tiger being not included at the symbol list of SCC election, Bulbul failed to get the symbol.
After receiving the symbol, Mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury alongwith his party leaders BNP City General Secretary Abdul Kaiwm Jalali Ponki went the visit the Majar of Hazrat Shah Jalal at Dargagate and after offering Fateha there he started election campaigning by distributing leaflets.
Mayoral candidate Kamran also reached at the Majar of Hazrat Shah Jalal around 12-30. He was accompanined by Member of Parliament of Sylhet-2 constituency Shofiqur Rahman Chowdhury, President of Sylhet city Awami League Abduj Johir Chowdhury Sufian.
After visiting the Majar, Kamran started his election campaign. During a short speech he mentioned, if he were elected the Mayor again, he would create job opportunities for unemployed people of the city by turning Sylhet into a industrial city.
