Schedule given for another lopsided election: Oikya Front

Dhaka, Nov 8 – Jatiya Oikya Front spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir yesterday alleged that the Election Commission announced the poll-schedule ignoring their request for deferring it in a bit to holding another lopsided election. In his immediate reaction, he said the poll schedule has been announced ignoring the hopes and desires of the people.
He neither accepts nor rejects the poll schedule which he said did not reflect the desires of the people.
Mirza Alamgir, who is also general secretary of BNP, warned that the people won’t accept any election contrary to their hopes and aspirations.
He said they would give formal reaction over the poll-schedule after holding party standing committee and Oikya Front steering committee meetings later on.
Earlier, the Oikya Front leaders met the CEC and requested him to defer the schedule until both the ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance and the Oikyafront reach an consensus over the polls.
Gano Forum secretary general Mostafa Mohsin Montu termed the election schedule unexpected saying that they did not expect this schedule even they requested to differ it.
He said since they cannot sit now due to their public meeting in Rajshahi, they would sit together later on and give their formal reaction.
Nagorik Oikya convenor Mahmudur Rahman Manna said the schedule has been announced ignoring their request to defer it and said it would not make the poll easy, rather it would be a painful one.
General secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Abdul Malek Ratan reiterated their demand to defer the poll schedule saying that it would not be possible to complete the submission of candidature within a week.
He said there will be only seven working days to call nomination from prospect candidates, scrutiny and finalization of candidature by the respective party and submission of nomination within the stipulated time.
“Thus, the poll schedule must be deferred,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, a meeting of BNP-led 20-party alliance held at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office last night discussed the latest development in the political arena and strategies for next course of
action. Mirza Alamgir presided over the meeting.
Briefing reporters, president of Liberal Democratic Party Col (Retd) Oli Ahmed alleged that the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been produced before the court without completion of her treatment at the High Court directive. He demanded the release of former premier immediate on the human ground. – Staff Reporter
