Second opposition alliance in offing!

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, Krishak Sramik Janata League President Kader Siddiqui, Bir Uttam, Jaitya Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rob and Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh president Prof Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury held a meeting at latter’s Baridhara residence on Wednesday night to discuss the possibilities of forging an alliance.When contacted ASM Abdur Rob said the announcement of a third political alliance may come any moment.
Asked whether the Jatiya Party led by former President HM Ershad would join the proposed alliance he declined to comment.
He however, said that the alliance might be formed comprising many parties including Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), Gano Forum, Nagorik Oikya and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal.
The meeting that began at 8:00pm and lasted one and half an hours also discussed the latest developments in the political arena and their roles in forming the proposed alliance before the next general election.
Talking to The Independent, Kader Siddiqui said, all of them expressed concerns over the prevailing political situation in the country and the government move to hold a lopsided election.
“All of us also opined that the next election should be participatory one,” he said.
Kader Siddiqui invited others to attend a public meeting organised by his party at his constituency in Tangail on Friday, meeting sources said.
Among others, Kazi Zafar Ahmed of Jatiya Party, Major (Retd) Abdul Mannan and Mahi B Chowdhury of Bikalpa Dhara were present at the meeting. – Staff Reporter
