Security arrangements for 31st night

Dhaka – In the wake of recent terrorist attacks, Dhaka Metropolitan Police( DMP) and Rapid Action Battalion( RAB) will put the capital city under tight security for New Year’s Eve.Talking to journalists, RAB Additional Director General ( Operations) Colonel Anwar Latif Khan said, we have completed our all out preparation to give the country foolproof security for celebrating the new year.
Replying to a question of any possible security threats, the second in command of RAB said, we are ready for any situation.
Not only in the capital city, we have instructed our all battalions to gear up security measure specially on the new year eve.
Deputy Police Commissioner of DMP Media and Public Relations ( DMP) Masudur Rahman said, the DMP would set up scores of check-posts in all strategic points in the city to check unruly mobs on the eve of the New Year.
Some 10,000 police will be deployed on different strategic points to avert any untoward incident.
Police check-posts shall do stringent checking of vehicles.
Posh Dhaka areas had been brought under a security blanket with the deployment of a large number of policemen.
No incidents of indiscipline, including reckless driving and dancing on Dhaka’s streets, would be tolerated on Dec. 31 night, he added.
Visitors will be not be allowed to stroll on the Patenga and Parki sea beaches in Chittagong after 5pm on Dec 31 as part of security measures heightened for the New Year’s Eve.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police have asked the people to close events at popular hangout spots of the port city such as Foy’s Lake, DC Hill, Agrabad and Kazir Deurhi Children’s Park by 6pm on that day.
Sources said the stringent measures in the capital and in the port city came amid threat of an increase in militancy. – Staff Reporter
