Sedition charge framed against BNP’s Tarique, 3 others

Dhaka – The Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Monday framed sedition charges against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and three others for telecasting a “fabricated and provocative” speech of the BNP leader.Former chairman of Ekushey Television, Abdus Salam, earlier secured bail in the case, pleaded not guilty and sought justice after Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the court read out the charges. Later He fixed January 15 to start trial process of the case.
On October 23, the court issued arrest warrants against Tarique Rahman and two former journalists of the Ekushey Television after accepting the charge sheet of the case. Other two accused Mahathir Farooki Khan and Kanak Sarwar went into hiding after they were granted bail. The charge-sheet of the case was submitted on September 6 last year against the four persons.
Sub-Inspector Borhanuddin and also the Investigation Officer of the case filed the case with Tejgaon Model Police Station on January 8 in 2015 against Tarique, Salam and several other unknown persons on the charges of telecasting a “false, fabricated, and provocative” speech delivered by Tarique Rahman on January 5 of the same year. – Special Correspondent
