See the state of Khaleda’s office, Bnp urges rights bodies

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) yesterday called upon all national, international human rights organisations, activists to visit the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office to observe the situation and put present it before the world.

“We call upon the UN human rights organisation to take its just step in this regard,” said BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed.In a statement issued yesterday he regretted that they earlier called upon the government to restore all the communication systems including telephone, fax, Internet, broadband and cable networks at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office but the “deaf government” did not bother to pay any heed to it.
The BNP leader termed the police remand of senior BNP leaders including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as illegal and demanded their unconditional release.
He protested the arrest of party’s two former lawmakers—Nazimuddin Ahmed and Ashraf Uddin Nizam without any reason and demanded their unconditional release.
Salahuddin also demanded all political prisoners arrested during the hartal and blockade programmes.
He alleged that the history of the Awami League is to hang on to power by resorting to constitutional coup.
“Democracy, human rights, fundamental rights, judiciary, Parliament and entire state organs have become hostage in their (AL) hands. There is no alternative to oust the government through non-stop movement,” he added.
The BNP leader also alleged that the loyal forces of the government are killing opposition leaders and activists those are carrying movement everyday by calling them from their homes. – Staff Reporter
