Selina Islam recently told BBC of her intention to submit no-confience petititon against the charge-sheet on the plea that it accuses not the planners of the murders. The no-confidence it is feared might lighten the blame on the alleged perpetrators of the murder.

Accepting the petition, Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate HM Shafiqul Islam fixed June 8 for the next hearing.

On April 8, detectives pressed charges against 35 people, including three sacked Rab officials-Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana and Nur Hossain, now in an Indian jail, in connection with the seven murders.

After the murder of seven people, Selina Islam filed a case against six people while advocate Chandan Sarkar’s son-in-law filed another case.

On April 27 last, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in the city. At the same time, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court, Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.

Three days after their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30. Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on May 1.

The two cases were later filed in connection with the murders.

Later, Shahidul Islam, Nazrul’s father-in-law, alleged that Rab officials killed Nazrul and others in exchange for Tk 6 crore from city councillor Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the murder case, and other accomplices.

The three former officials of Rab-11 in Narayanganj-Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Navy’s Lt Commander MM Rana — were sent on forced retirement for their alleged involvement in the incident. They are now in jail.

On June 14 last, Paschimbanga police arrested Nur Hossain from an apartment in Kolkata.

Selina Islam whose wailings touched hearts of citizens of Narayanganj and those of the rest of the country as she detected the deshaped body of her husband wrapped in a mat after recovery from the Sitalakhya river is now an elected councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation from the seat that her husband used to hold before the murder.

The hell of shock and misery that had befallen her family and those of six other innocent vitims of the group abduction and murder had attracted a wide media attention and coverage of the murders.

As Selina told the BBC recently in an interview the planners of the murders were to blame more than those who have been implicated in the charge-sheet.

The proceedings of the case revealed that Selina’s husband Nazrul Islam was the main target of the murder, others became victims as they including lawyer Advocate Chandan Sarkar, were witnesses to the abduction following which the murders were executed. – News Desk
