Seminar on Zahir Raihan’s technical crafts today

A special seminar on the technical advancement through Zahir Raihan’s filmmaking will be held today at 3pm at the Auditorium of Bangladesh Film Archive, Agargaon in the capital. Present at the distinguished seminar will be many family members of Zahir Raihan including his younger brother Saif Ullah, sons Bipul Raihan and Anal Raihan and Zahir Raihan’s childhood friend and compatriot Rahim Newaz. Also present would be Kohinoor Akther Suchanda, media personality Syed Hasan Imam, educationist Momtaz Uddin Ahmed. TV programme director Shaheen Mahmud will read the keynote at the seminar.Zahir Raihan, having done some noteworthy amazing works and with the promise of further amazing work, died an untimely death before he had a chance to explore his full potential. He made Pakistan’s first colour movie, Sangam in 1964 and completed his first CinemaScope movie, Bahana, the following year. An active supporter of the Language Movement of 1952, his film Jibon Theke Neya was critically acclaimed by Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Tapan Sinha and Ritwik Ghatak. He also actively participated in the Gano Obhyuthyan in 1969 and joined in the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
Born on 19 August 1935, in Feni District Zahir Raihan went missing after going to find his brother, the famous writer Shahidullah Kaiser on January 30 right after the Liberation War in Mipur, which was then one of the strongholds of the enemies.
