Septuagenarian killed in elephant attack in Sherpur

Dhaka – A septuagenarian man was killed and his son injured as a herd of marauding elephants attacked their house at Gurucharan Dudnai village in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur district early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Haji Rustam Ali, 70, a resident of the village.Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Jhenaigati M Selim Reza said a herd of 20/25 wild elephants moved down into the village looking for food at night.
At one stage, the animals made a swoop on the house of Rustam Ali around 2:30am when Rustam and his family members were taking Sehri.
As the house inmates started to flee, the elephants attacked them, leaving Rustam dead on the spot and his son Niamat Ali injured.
Later, Niamat was whisked off to Sherpur District Hospital.
