Tens of thousands marooned as flood hits Lalmonirhat

Dhaka – Onrush of water from the upstream and incessant rainfall over the last couple of days has flooded more than 63 chars (shoals emerged from the riverbed) in Lalmonirhat district, leaving about one lakh people marooned, unb news agency reported. The Tista and Dharala rivers were flowing 22 centimetres above their danger marks at Doani Barrage point in the morning, according to the district flood control room.
Besides, Dharala river was flowing 15 centimetere above the danger line in Kulaghat point of the district.
Most of the roads went under water following heavy rainfall in the last two days, causing immense sufferings to the villagers.
However, district administration has opened some 44 gates of the Tista Barrage to control the situation.
