Seven held for possessing bomb-making material in Dhaka

Police have arrested 7 persons for possessing 8 kg of explosives used to make handmade bombs from the capital’s Khilgaon area.
Joint Commissioner of Dhaka police Md Monirul Islam told reporters on Monday that the recovery was made early on Monday from a house at East Goran.He said that one of arrested is a local leader of Chhatra Dal, the student affiliate of BNP.
Those arrested were Iqbal Hossain Rana, Monir, Md Babu, Ripon, Md Sohel, Manik and Rubel.
Initial questioning revealed those detained were paid to make and hurl bombs during strikes and blockades.
Police said quoting Rana that he was the second-man in the bomb-making gang.
He used to pay people to make bombs, deliver them to specific location and then set them off.
“We gained information that about 50 kg explosives were brought into Dhaka 15 days ago for a gang. We had started raids. Nosw we have been informed that they have used 42 kgs of explosives to make bombs,” the DMP Joint Commissioner said at the press briefing.
He also said that police have identified seven persons in connection with the vandalism and arson in Dhaka on Dec 13 a day after Quader Molla’s execution. – bdnews24.com
