Shahidul Alam goes to High Court for bail

Dhaka, Sept 18 – Photographer Shahidul Alam filed a bail petition with the High Court Division of the Supreme Court after being rejected by a Dhaka lower court in a case filed under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act. The petition was submitted before the High Court bench of Justice Md Rejaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md. Saifur Rahman on Tuesday (September 18).
Later, the bench kept the petition for Wednesday’s court agenda. On September 11, Judge Imrul Kayes of Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka rejected bail petition of Shahidul Alam in a case filed for spreading propaganda and anti-government information.
On September 10, High Court directed the lower court concerned to settle photographer Shahidul Alam’s bail petition by September 11.
Internationally-acclaimed photographer Dr Shahidul Alam, also Drik Gallery’s owner, was picked up from his Dhanmondi residence on the night of August 5.
Police filed the case against Shahidul Alam for spreading propaganda and false information on Facebook and electronic media against the government.
Rehnuma, the wife of Dr Shahidul Alam, said her husband gave an interview to international media about students’ protest for safe roads. Besides, he came live on Facebook about the issue for a number of times. – Special Correspondent
