Police have arrested BNP Vice Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury soon after he came out of party chief Khaleda Zia’s house in Dhaka’s Gulshan.He was present when British envoy Robert Gibson met her on Monday evening. Police picked up Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and whisked him away at 7:30pm.
“They are taking me away,” Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury told journalists. His phone has been off since then. Khaleda’s advisors Riaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed were also present during the meeting with the British envoy.
As Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury was arrested, the two advisors rushed into the house fearing their arrest, too. Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman confirmed that Shamsher Mobin had been arrested.
He, however, refused to reveal the charges against him. Just a day ago, another BNP Vice Chairman Hafizuddin Ahmed was detained just after he held a press conference at the National Press Club.
Police detained another Vice Chairperson, Selima Rahman, and MP Rasheda Begum Hira from in front of Khaleda’s house. They were later released.-bdnews24.com
