Shares gain in post-Eid trading

Key share price indices at the country’s twin bourses — Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) — gained on Tuesday, the first trading day after Eid vacation.

The DSE benchmark index, DSEX gained 75.18 points or 1.61 percent to close at 4731.32 on the day. Of the 317 issues traded, 228 gained, 61 declined and 28 remained unchanged.

Shares worth Tk 492.67 crore changed hands at the DSE on Tuesday as against Tk 520.66 crore on last Tuesday before eid vacations.

The day’s top 10 gainers at the DSE were Shahjibazar Power, BSRM Limited, Islami Bank, Continental Insurance, Republic Insurance, Bangas Limited, Bangladesh General Insurance, Rupali Insurance, Exim Bank 1st Mutual Fund, and Northern General Insurance.

The top five turnover leaders at the DSE were Lafarge Surma Cement, Grameenphone, ACI, Khulna Power Company, and RAK Ceramics.

Top five losers of the day were Prime Islami Life Insurance, Hakkani Pulp & Paper, First Bangladesh Fixed Income Fund, BD Welding Electrodes, and MBL 1st Mutual Fund.

The CSE key index, CASPI gained 226.86 points to reach 14539.63 at close on Tuesday. Of the 237 issues traded, 147 advanced, 60 suffered loss and 29 remained unchanged.

The value of the traded issues at the CSE was Tk 44.97 crore on the day.  – UNB
