A Shibir worker, Mostafa Manzil 30, has been killed in Rab firing in Palashbari Upazila of Gaibandha district at about 5 am on Tuesday.
The deceased was the son of Jasim Master ofvillage Bishnupur under Shahapara union under the district.
Rab sources have been quoted to have said, Rab members opened fire in self-defence when a car carrying a Rab petrol team back from duty came under petrol bomb and gun attack in the Burighat area on Gainabdha-Palashbari road.Mostafa Manzil was hit in the firing and died on the spot. Rab sources said they recovered 7 petrol bombs, one foreign-made pistol, one local gun, and a motor cycle used by the Mostafa Manzil’s group.
Palashbari thana sources however said that Mostafa Manzil was the principal accused in the torching of a bus (of Napu Enterprise) in which 8 passengers were killed.
Another Shibir members was killed in a reported ‘gunfight’ with Rab in Gaibandha since the start of the present opposition agitation.
