The leader of an underground political party was killed in Jhinedah while an alleged leader of robbers was injured in Satkhira in reported ‘gunfights’ with Rab and Police on early Tuesday, according to reports reaching Dhaka.
In Jhenidah, Rabiul Islam, 35, leader of the outlawed Biplabi Communist Party was killed in a ‘gunfight’ in the Chatulia more area in the early hours of Tuesday.Rab sources have been quoted to have said, Rabiul Islam was arrested from the Bishkhali Bazaar area on Monday night. When Rab mwmbers along with him went to Chatulia more to recover arms in the early hours on Tuesday, alleged terrorists fired shots at Rab members. As Rab returned the fire Rabiul was hit by bullet.
When he was taken to the Jhenidah Sadar Hospital on duty doctored declared his dead. Two rab members were injured in the incident, Rab sources were quoted to have said.
Two pistols, two revolvers, two shotguns 10 bullets and six petrol bombs were recovered in the raid, the sources added.
In Satkhira an alleged robber was injured in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police in Ramchandra area of the district town early Tuesday.
The injured was identified as Shahidul Islam,32, son of Akbar Ali, a resident of Rasulpur Pashchimpara of the town.
Police said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers was trying to commit robbery in the area, a team of police launched a drive to arrest them at about 2:30 am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers hurled two hand bombs and opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight that left Shahidul of the gang bullet injured.
Police arrested Shahidul while his associates managed to flee the scene. Shahidul was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital under police custody.
Police also recovered two sharp weapons, one bullet shell and some parts of bomb from the spot. Shahidul was a member of inter-district robber gang, police said.
Satkhira district police sub-inspector Kamal Hossain confirmed the incident.
Shahidul’s father Akbar Ali however said that police arrested Shahidul from Judge Court on Monday and then they fired shots on him at night. – News Desk
