Shibir calls hartal in Sylhet division Thursday, Friday

Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, on Monday called hartal in Sylhet division for Thursday and Friday in protest against the expulsion of its 14 leaders and activists form Shahjalal University of Science and Technology(SUST).
Shibir’s city unit press secretary Asaduzzaman Bablu announced the hartal through a press release.
The admission test for the first year honours courses at for the academic session.Meanwhile, Shibir’s SUST unit will start a nonstop strike in the university from Tuesday demanding withdrawal of the expulsion order.
“A group is trying to thwart our classes and exams. But we’ll not let their evil plan to become a success,” General Secretary of the SUST Teachers’ Association Prof Faruk Uddin said.
“The classes and the exams will continue,” he added.
Earlier, Shibir observed strike in the university on March 12 and 13 to press home the same demand.
On February 28, the university authorities expelled 14 leaders and activists of Shibir, including university unit president and general secretary, on charge of vandalising ‘Chetana 71’ and attacking a human chain formed by teachers and students protesting the vandalism in December last year. –UNB
