Shibir leader killed in police firing in city

Dhaka – A leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed in police firing during a clash between 18-party activists and police in the city’s Malibagh Bazar area on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Mansur Ahmed, 21, president of ward no 3 unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir in the city and son of Razzaque Ali of Sadar upazila in Chandpur. He was a student of a private university of city’s Uttara area.
Witnesses said some activists of 18-party alliance brought out a procession in Malibagh Bazar area to join the ‘March for Democracy’ programme about 11:30am.
Police fired teargas shells and rubber bullets to foil the procession, triggering a clash that left Mansur injured with bullet.
Mansur was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at around 12:15pm, sources at the hospital said. – UNB
