Shibir man, two youths killed in Dhaka, Jessore, Comilla ‘gunfights’
Three young people were killed in reported ‘gunfight’ with Police and Rab in Dhaka, Jessore and Comilla on Saturday night, according to reports received from different sources.
Law enforcers said that a Shibir member Jashim killed in ‘gunfight’ at Taltala in Dhaka city had reportedly thrown cocktail at a police sergeant at Shyamoli injuring him. Those killed in Jessore and Comilla were involved in criminal activities.Sub Inspector Abdur Rob told journalists that the body of Shibir Worker Jashim was recovered from Taltala area and sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue on Sunday morning.
Police said, deceased Jashim Uddin, son of one Abdur Razzak was a member of Islami Chhatra Shibir, but did not give details.
According to SI Abdur Rob at midday on Saturday a group of about12 people while walking past the Shyamoli area threw a cocktail at police Sergeant Golam Mowla and fled away. Injured Golam Mowla was admitted to the Suhrawardy Hospital.
The Islami Chhatra Shibir in a press release issued on the day said Jasim Uddin was picked up along with three others by police from a ‘Leguna’ passenger vehicle at about 8am when he was returning after taking part in a procession in Shyamoli at about 8am on Saturday protesting indiscriminate killings. It said statements were issued expressing concern when the four arrested young men were taken to the Detective Branch from Sher-e-Banglanagar thana.
The press release said Jasim Uddin was killed by taking him out of the DB office at dead of night and then the story of ‘gunfight’ was spread as a cover up. Jasim was the organising secretary of Shibir Mirpur East thana. A final year student of Fail of Kazipara Madrasah Jasim hailed from village Kundialpara under Bandar Hat Thana of Barisal city.
The statement said they issued statement on Saturday as police denied arresting Jasim and others. But despite all the efforts he was killed, the statement said adding that the ‘untrue’ statement given by the police was meant to ‘cover up the killing’. The statement said ‘police should give up their uniform if the want to engage themselves in such killings at the orders of their superiors. Such killings would not be accepted and adopt what might be needed.’
Police did not detail on from where Shibir member Jashim was held or when and in what circumstances he was killed in ‘gunfight’.
In the same night Raju alias Bhaipo Raju (36) was killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab in Jessore while in the Comilla district town one Swapan Kumar alias Kala Swapan was killed in another ‘gunfight’ with police.
Major Ashrafudin commander of Jessore Rab camp told journalists that after arresting Raju on Saturday night Rab members along with Raju went to recover weapons in the early hours at a brickfield in the suburban area of Modli on the Dhaka-Jessore highway at about 3-30am. He said, accomplices of Raju opened fire at Rab members who returned the fire.
In the reported ‘Gunfight’ Raju received bullet injury from a ‘shot fired by his accomplices’ as e tried to flee. The Rab official said they recovered a firearm and to bullets from the spot. Raju is the son of Azibur Rahman of Garikana Road of Jessore. He faced several cases in the murder of Ornov son of former PPP .AZ M Firoze, he said.
In Comilla OC Proshanta of Comilla Sadar South thana told journalists that Swapan was arrested from the Kotbari area of Comilla town on Saturday morning. When police went to recover arms along with him at about 1-30 am accomplices of Swapan opened fire at police at Batpara area. Police returned the fire and later recovered the body of Swapan.
Deceased Swapan was a resident of Uttar Rampur village in the Paduabazar Biswaroad area. He was an accused in 28 cases including murder of Juba League leader Mostaq, the OC said.
The body of Swapan was sent to the Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue. – News Desk
