A half-day hatal called by Islami Chhatra Shibir protesting the
killing of one of its leaders in Dhaka was observed peacefully in the
district Sunday.
No untoward incident was reported till filing of this report around 8:45 am.
But, the vehicular movement was thin on the district town roads. The
shutters of all roadside shops also remained down during the hartal
hours.
The educational institutions of the district town also remained closed.
Khalilur Rahman, 22, president of ward No. 88 of Shibir Dhaka city
unit and a resident of Mollikpara village in Santhia upazila, was
reportedly shot dead in a clash with police in the capital’s Jatrabari
area during Jamaat’s hartal on Wenesday.
Mizanur Rahman, publicity secretary of Shibir, announced the shutdown
at Kormoja Eidgah Maidan in Santhia upazila around 10.00am on Thursday
before the Namaj-e -Janaja of Khalilur started. -UNB, Pabna
