Shifting Abrar case to Speedy Trial court Home Ministry job

Law Minister Anisul Huq on Wednesday said that the government would take the necessary steps to hold the trial in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad under the Speedy Trial Tribunal.

The minister said this in remarks to journalists at the Secretariat, where he also added that it is the Home Ministry that would be in charge of expediting the trial process in this manner.

“According to the desire of the Prime Minister and people of the country, trial of Abrar murder case will be concluded swiftly to set an example that deters others from committing such crime in the future,” Anisul added.

The prosecution team would start work on the trial proceedings from Monday, the Minister said.

Meanwhile, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the morning submitted chargesheet before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court accusing 25 people in the murder case.

Abrar Fahad, 21, a second-year student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department at Buet, was beaten to death by his fellow students, most of them Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists, at one of the university’s halls of residence on the night of October 6 .
