Shimulia-Kathalbari ferry plying resumes

Dhaka – BIWTC authorities resumed the ferry service on Shimulia-Kathalbari river route on Saturday evening defying inclement weather.Ro-Ro Ferry Bir Shrestha Jahangir left Shimulia Ghat at 6pm carrying passengers and three ambulances on board and reached Kathalbair Ghat at 8pm, said Khandaker Shah Newaj Khaled, assistant managing director of BIWTC.Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan also crossed the mighty Padma River riding on Camellia Ferry to reach Shimulia from Kathalbari at 8 pm.The authorities kept the ferry service and plying of all modes of water vessels suspended from Saturday morning due to the heavy rain and squally wind along with strong current.As a result, a good number of vehicles had wait on both the sides of the river, creating immense sufferings to the passengers.UNB news agency
